This course is designed for site managers, agents and persons who are, or are about to be, responsible for planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering groups of staff and workforce.
This course covers all relevant legislation and other aspects which affect safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures, and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture among the workforce.
This course is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all managers working on Build UK sites.
Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance. We recommend that this course is renewed every three years.
Introduction – Introduction to GE 700 Construction Site Safety and XA6 SMSTS delegate workbook.
Aims and Objectives – To:
Manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions, and within the context of their management or supervisory role.
Develop an understanding of responsibility and accountability for site health, safety and welfare.
Recognise that a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.
Implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation which affects them during their daily work.
Health and Safety Law – Covering acts, regulations, approved codes of practices, guidance (HSE/industry), criminal law, powers of inspectors and improvement and prohibition notices.
Management of Contractors and the Working Environment - Construction (Design and Management) Regulations.
Working at Height
Management of Plant, Equipment and Systems of Work – lifting appliances, lifting gear and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Construction Health Risks – Welfare, hazardous substances, asbestos, vibration, noise, electricity at work, fire prevention, confined spaces etc.
Monitoring – inspections, surveys, tours, auditing, accident reporting and investigation.
Communication and Co-operation – duties to provide information, instruction and training, engaging with contractors and workers.
There are no formal entry requirements: however, delegates should hold or be about to hold the role of a construction manager.
Assessment will be by multiple choice questions at the end of the course and completion of core exercises and a case study. Delegates are also expected to be interactive during the course.
