Delegates

This course is designed for those whose work will knowingly disturb asbestos containing materials and which is defined as Non-Licensable Work or NNLW, should receive additional task-specific information, instruction and training.

Delegates must have an in-date UKATA Asbestos Awareness certificate in order to sit this course.

Certificate

Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance. We recommend that this course is renewed every 12 months.

Overview

• Familiarity with non-licensed work – becoming familiar with what works are classified as non-licensed, and the control measures that will be required to undertake non-licensed work with asbestos containing materials.
• Specific tasks – learning how to undertake specific tasks as laid down in HSG210, Essential Task Manual including the removal and drilling of materials containing asbestos such as floor tiles, gaskets, cement based products, etc.
• Preventing the spread of asbestos – understand yours and your employers requirements to prevent the spread of asbestos and control exposure when working with non-licensed asbestos containing materials.
• Learn how to adequately decontaminate and prevent the spread of asbestos after working with non-licensed asbestos containing materials.
• Asbestos waste – how to deal with the waste generated from undertaking tasks with non-licensed asbestos containing materials.
• Responsibilities – the need for employers to assess the work area, and make presumptions as to the type of asbestos contained within the material.
• Learn to understand the need to prepare a suitable and sufficient assessment of exposure and a plan of work, in addition to the requirement for notification, and when and how to notify notifiable non licensed work (NNLW).
• General maintenance – maintenance of control measures, use of control measures as well as provision and cleaning of personal protective equipment, cleanliness of premises and plant.
• Practical elements – decontamination, H-Vac, RPE/PPE, basic tasks, waste packaging, storage, transport and disposal of asbestos waste, requirements of face fits and the need for personal monitoring.
