CSCS Red Trainee Card

The CSCS Red Trainee Card is issued to individuals who are enrolled on a competence assessed qualification or who have completed a recognised training qualification relating to the Construction Industry. It is designed to support people progressing toward a Skilled CSCS Card.

A five year, non‑renewable CSCS Red Trainee Card is available to anyone registered for and actively working towards a competence assessed qualification such as an NVQ/SVQ, or an academic qualification like a HNC, HND, or Degree.

The qualification can be vocational or academic, but it must be one that leads to eligibility for a Skilled CSCS Card.

A two year, CSCS Red Trainee Card is available to individuals who have completed an approved Level 2 or higher occupation related training qualification within the past five years. The initial CSCS Red Trainee Card can be renewed once it expires, provided the holder can show they are now registered on an N/SVQ or another agreed equivalent qualification.

Progress to the three year CSCS Red Trainee Card
When the initial two year CSCS Red Trainee Card expires, the holder can apply for a new three year CSCS Red Trainee Card. Individuals must supply evidence that they are formally registered on an NVQ/SVQ or an agreed alternative qualification pathway.

Apply for a CSCS Red Trainee Card

To apply for your CSCS Red Trainee Card, please complete the following steps:

STEP 1. Obtain evidence of your enrolment of your qualification or a training programme.                       

STEP 2. Book your CITB Health Safety & Environment (HS&E) Test.

STEP 3. Once you have completed STEP 1 & 2, you can apply for your CSCS Red Trainee Card.

Validation of a CSCS Red Trainee Card

• Five year CSCS Red Trainee Card, individuals are expected to complete their qualification before the card expires.
• Upon expiry of the CSCS Red Trainee Card, your qualification can be vocational or academic, but it must be one that leads to eligibility for a Skilled CSCS Card.
• The CSCS Red Trainee Card cannot be renewed.
