COVID-19: Step 1 – BACK TO WORK

Step 1: COVID-19 – BACK TO WORK

Government announced three steps introducing the ease of lockdown.

Step 1 – BACK TO WORK
Prime Minister encourages people in construction and manufacturing jobs to go back to work this week. However, the message remains, work from home if you can, but you should go to work if you can’t work from home. Travelling to work, you should avoid using public transport if at all possible, as social distancing needs to be maintained and capacity will therefore be limited. You can travel to work by car or the preferred option is to walk or cycle to work.

Whilst this step is introduced, you must obey the rules on social distancing as fines will be increased to those who breach them.

Step 2 – REOPEN SHOPS & SCHOOLS
The Prime Minister stated at the earliest by 1 June 2020, after half term the government believe they may be in a position to begin the phased reopening of shops and to get primary pupils back into schools, starting with Reception, Year 1 and Year 6.

Secondary school pupils facing exams next year will get at least some time with their teachers before the holidays, however detailed guidance on how to make it work in schools, shops and on transport will be released in due course.

Step 3 – REOPEN HOSPITALITY & OTHER PUBLIC PLACES
The Prime Minister set his final stage stating that at the earliest by July 2020, subject to all the conditions and further scientific advice, if the numbers support it, the hope is to re-open at least some of the hospitality industry and other public places. This is based on enforcing social distancing and safety to reopening.

Anyone working in construction, manufacturing or business who have not been able to work from home, can now return to work this week, however it is vitally important that you have safety measures in place to protect your workers returning to work. By law if you employ more than 5 people, you are required to have a risk assessment, this is ensuring the safety of your workers is paramount more than ever in the current pandemic that we are in.
