{"id":8957,"date":"2018-10-22T10:22:47","date_gmt":"2018-10-22T10:22:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/?page_id=8957"},"modified":"2018-10-22T10:22:47","modified_gmt":"2018-10-22T10:22:47","slug":"energy-company-fined-after-worker-injured","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/energy-company-fined-after-worker-injured\/","title":{"rendered":"Energy Company Fined After Worker Injured"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>An Energy Company has been sentenced after a contractor was injured by a falling steel wire coil.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrates\u2019 Court heard how, on 23 April 2017, a contractor was working at a pre-assembly site in Great Yarmouth when a steel wire coil, weighing 50kg, dropped onto their left forearm and wrist. The worker suffered a fractured wrist as a result of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found the company had failed to ensure a suitable and sufficient risk assessment and adequate control measures were in place to prevent the injury.<\/p>\n<p>The company was found guilty of breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and was fined \u00a366,000. and ordered to pay \u00a310,106.38 in costs.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the hearing, HSE inspector commented: \u201cThis could have been easily prevented if the defendant had put in place simple measures to reduce the risk of injury from dropped objects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUndertaking suitable and sufficient risk assessment and developing safe system of work which follow the hierarchy of control are an important element of risk control and reduction. \u201c<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>An Energy Company has been sentenced after a contractor was injured by a falling steel wire coil.
