In 2020-21 there were 35 recorded fatalities in the UK caused by falls from height, which means that it remains the highest cause of workplace fatality.<\/p>\n<p>When it comes to ladders, the current INDG455 guidance from the HSE has been replaced with the new LA455 documentation which is now managed by the Ladder Association. There is also a new Approved Code of Practice for Ladders to accompany the guidance document. Both of these can be found on <a href=\"https:\/\/ladderassociation.org.uk\/\">The Ladder Association Website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>From the end of November 2021, Mobile Towers will be covered by new standards EN1004-1. It states that ALL towers will now be included in a scope of standards (including those less than 2.5m in height), and that tower\u2019s must have safer designs. Specifically, the distance between platforms must be 2.2m and the distance from the ground to the first platform must be 3.4m. Further information can be found on the <a href=\"https:\/\/pasma.co.uk\/\">PASMA Website<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>For your employees who hold IPAF certification, the new ePAL certification and renewal process has become available. It requires the download of an app which then acts as a digital wallet, permitting users to manage their certification and track their experience using MEWP with a digital logbook.<\/p>\n<p>On 30<sup>th<\/sup> June 2021 a new IPAF MEWP Operator Renewal Training Course also became available. Where operators have 60 entries within their logbook (10 in the last 12 months), they will be able to sit the shorter refresher course instead of the full 3 day course. Operators also have the option to upgrade to a new PAL+ Advanced MEWP Operator Renewal Training course which utilises bigger machines and tests competency in higher risk situations.<\/p>\n<p>Courses can now be taken in state-of-the-art VR Simulators and E-learning options are also available for those who cannot make classroom courses.
