{"id":10636,"date":"2022-01-17T10:48:12","date_gmt":"2022-01-17T10:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/?p=10636"},"modified":"2022-01-17T10:48:12","modified_gmt":"2022-01-17T10:48:12","slug":"construction-worker-dies-after-falling-from-tower","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/construction-worker-dies-after-falling-from-tower\/","title":{"rendered":"Construction worker dies after falling from tower"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>A construction company has been fined after an employee died as a result of falling from a mobile tower.<br \/>\nA Magistrates Court heard how, on 15 September 2017, an employee was working from a mobile tower levelling a steel beam that was seated on a door lintel. This involved using a crowbar to lever the beam up for a work colleague to insert a metal packer into the gap. He caught his jacket sleeve on the tower, lost balance and fell over a single guard rail and down to ground level. He was taken to hospital but died three months later due to medical complications.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the mobile tower wasn\u2019t configured correctly for the task due to the limited headroom and that double guard rails could have been used, if configured correctly.<br \/>\nThe construction company pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 8 (a) of the Work at Height Regulations 2005 and was fined \u00a316,000 with \u00a35,139.80 costs.<br \/>\nSpeaking after the hearing, an HSE inspector said: \u201cFalls from height remain one of the most common causes of work-related fatalities in this country and the risks associated with working at height are well known.<br \/>\n\u201cThose in control of work have a responsibility to select access equipment that is suitable for the task and the work environment and ensure that it is safely used.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Click on MBO Safety Services&#8217; <a href=\"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/training\/\">training page<\/a> to book one of our Working at Height and Harness Training courses.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/\">Health and Safety Executive<\/a> (HSE)<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A construction company has been fined after an employee died as a result of falling from a mobile tower.
