{"id":8951,"date":"2018-10-15T15:13:25","date_gmt":"2018-10-15T15:13:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/?p=8951"},"modified":"2018-10-15T15:13:25","modified_gmt":"2018-10-15T15:13:25","slug":"fine-for-engineering-company-following-life-changing-hand-injuries-to-worker","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/fine-for-engineering-company-following-life-changing-hand-injuries-to-worker\/","title":{"rendered":"Fine For Engineering Company Following Life-Changing Hand Injuries to Worker"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>An engineering company has been fined after an employee\u2019s little finger and ring finger were amputated at the first knuckle.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrates\u2019 Court heard that on 29 January 2018 the employee was working at a site on when his gloved hand came into contact with a rotating spindle on a Slack and Par horizontal quick tapping machine and became entangled.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the company failed to ensure that effective measures were taken to prevent access to the dangerous parts, namely the rotating spindles, of a Slack and Parr horizontal quick tapping machine.<\/p>\n<p>The company pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 11(1) of The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 and has been fined \u00a314,000 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a31,383.88.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the hearing the HSE inspector said \u201cThis injury was easily preventable and the risk should have been identified.
