{"id":8962,"date":"2018-10-24T11:58:04","date_gmt":"2018-10-24T11:58:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/?p=8962"},"modified":"2018-10-24T11:58:04","modified_gmt":"2018-10-24T11:58:04","slug":"yorkshire-company-fined-after-worker-killed","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/yorkshire-company-fined-after-worker-killed\/","title":{"rendered":"Yorkshire Company Fined After Worker Killed"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>A garden shed manufacturing company was today sentenced for safety breaches after a worker was killed.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrates\u2019 Court heard how, on 23 July 2012, the worker was pushing a trolley when he was struck by a side loader fork lift truck (FLT) that had been unloading a delivery wagon at the time of the incident.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the FLT was unloading a delivery wagon at the time of the accident. As the worker passed a ventilation system cyclone the reversing FLT struck him.<\/p>\n<p>The company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2 (1) of the Health &amp; Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and was fined \u00a3233,334.00 with \u00a321,620 costs.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>After the hearing, the HSE inspector commented: \u201cThis was a tragic and wholly avoidable incident, caused by the failure of the company to implement the findings of their own transport plan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVehicles at work continue to be a major cause of fatal and major injuries. Every year there are over 5000 incidents involving transport in the workplace.
