{"id":9018,"date":"2019-03-22T11:48:55","date_gmt":"2019-03-22T11:48:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/?p=9018"},"modified":"2019-03-22T11:48:55","modified_gmt":"2019-03-22T11:48:55","slug":"company-fined-after-worker-injured-by-machinery","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/company-fined-after-worker-injured-by-machinery\/","title":{"rendered":"Company fined after worker injured by machinery"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>A manufacturing company today has been fined after a worker\u2019s hand was caught in machinery.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrates\u2019 Court heard how, on the 5 July 2017, an employee of the manufacturing company was trying to clear a blockage from a metal cutting saw, when the blade cut through the knuckle of his left index finger damaging the tendon and ligament, such that he was unable to work for 8 months.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that there was inadequate guarding to prevent access to dangerous parts of the machinery and that training had not been provided on isolation, lock-off procedures and safe systems of work during maintenance activities. The investigation also found the Company had failed to identify the risks associated with inadequately guarded machinery.<\/p>\n<p>The company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and fined \u00a314,000 with \u00a35473.21 costs.<\/p>\n<p>The HSE inspector said after the case: \u201cThis injury was easily preventable.
