{"id":9272,"date":"2019-09-13T16:25:46","date_gmt":"2019-09-13T16:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/?p=9272"},"modified":"2019-09-13T16:25:46","modified_gmt":"2019-09-13T16:25:46","slug":"man-sentenced-following-gas-concerns-at-caravan-site","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/man-sentenced-following-gas-concerns-at-caravan-site\/","title":{"rendered":"Man sentenced following gas concerns at Caravan site"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">One of the individuals with management responsibility of a static caravan site has been sentenced for failing to have gas appliances properly maintained and inspected and failing to safely store Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) cylinders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">The Crown Court heard that concerns were raised in April 2016 by the District Council relating to the gentlemen who rented out caravans at the Caravan site.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that the gentleman had no Landlord\u2019s Gas Safety Certificates for the gas appliances in the caravans rented out, some of which were found to be immediately dangerous and had to be disconnected. The LPG cylinders not being used were stored unsafely presenting a risk of fire and explosion.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">HSE ensured that all the caravans on the site were inspected by a competent person (a Gas Safe registered engineer) to ensure the gas appliances and fittings were safe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">The gentleman pleaded guilty to breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 and was sentenced to an eight-month prison sentence suspended for two years. He was also instructed to pay full costs of \u00a322,235.00.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">Speaking after the hearing the HSE inspector said \u201cThis case highlights the importance of not only looking after your employees but members of the public too.
