It also failed to provide suitable training or health surveillance for its maintenance workers and failed to maintain and replace tools which increased vibration levels.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">The company pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and has been fined \u00a3600,000, and ordered to pay costs of \u00a313,995.06<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">Speaking after the hearing, the HSE inspector said: \u201cCompanies must manage the risks associated with vibrating tools. Hand arm vibration can be a significant health risk wherever powered hand tools are used for significant lengths of time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"background: white; box-sizing: border-box; font-variant-ligatures: normal; font-variant-caps: normal; orphans: 2; text-align: start; widows: 2; -webkit-text-stroke-width: 0px; text-decoration-style: initial; text-decoration-color: initial; word-spacing: 0px; margin: 0cm 0cm 7.5pt 0cm;\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Century Gothic',sans-serif; color: #333333;\">\u201cHAVS is preventable, but once the damage is done it is permanent. Damage from HAVS can include the inability to do fine work and cold can trigger painful finger blanching attacks.
