{"id":9488,"date":"2020-04-21T12:24:34","date_gmt":"2020-04-21T12:24:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/?p=9488"},"modified":"2020-04-21T13:13:50","modified_gmt":"2020-04-21T13:13:50","slug":"face-fit-testing-how-to-minimise-the-risk-of-covid-19-transmission","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/face-fit-testing-how-to-minimise-the-risk-of-covid-19-transmission\/","title":{"rendered":"Face Fit Check &#8211; How to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>More than ever, with the current outbreak masks are being worn, however we need to make sure the mask is fitted correctly to minimise the risk of transmission.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Respiratory protective equipment<\/strong><br \/>\nTight-fitting respirators such as disposable FFP3 masks and reusable half masks rely on having a good seal with the wearer\u2019s face. A face fit test should be carried out to ensure the respiratory protective equipment (RPE) can protect the wearer.<\/p>\n<p>To ensure you put on tight-fitting RPE correctly, use a mirror or ask a colleague. Fit-testers should follow government advice on social distancing, as they can make observations from this distance and deliver any instructions verbally.<\/p>\n<p>The user should then carry out a pre-use seal check or fit check. The video gives guidance on how to put on disposable respirators and how to do a pre-use seal check or fit check.<\/p>\n<p>https:\/\/youtu.be\/iVVlTBcN5eA<\/p>\n<p><strong>Minimise the risk of transmission<\/strong><br \/>\nPeople who have symptoms of COVID-19 or are isolating in accordance with government guidance should not attend a face fit test.<\/p>\n<p>To minimise the risk of transmission of COVID-19 during face-fit testing the following additional measures should be taken:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Fit-testers should follow government advice on social distancing;<\/li>\n<li>Fit-testers can make observations from a distance and deliver any instructions verbally;<\/li>\n<li>Those being fitted should keep their respirators on;<\/li>\n<li>If closer observation is required, both the fit tester and those being fit tested should wash their hands before and after the test in accordance with NHS guidelines;<\/li>\n<li>Those being fit tested with non-disposable masks should clean the mask themselves before and immediately after the test using a suitable disinfectant cleaning wipe. Please check with manufacturer instructions to avoid damage to the mask;<\/li>\n<li>Test facepieces that cannot be adequately disinfected (e.g. disposable half masks) should not be used by more than one individual;<\/li>\n<li>Fit testers should wear disposable gloves when undertaking cleaning of the tubes, hoods etc and ensure they remove gloves\u00a0immediately dispose of used gloves, disposable masks, cleaning wipes etc in a waste bin. Follow the correct procedure from HSE https:\/\/www.hse.gov.uk\/skin\/posters\/glovesingleuse.pdf<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A fit test should be carried out before people wear Respiratory protective equipment (RPE) for the first time. Inadequate fit can reduce the protection provided and lead to immediate or long-term ill-health or can even put the RPE wearer\u2019s life in danger.<\/p>\n<p><strong>General points to note<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A fit test should be repeated whenever there is a change to the RPE type, size, model or material or whenever there is a change to the circumstances of the wearer that could alter the fit of the RPE; for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weight loss or gain<\/li>\n<li>Substantial dental work<\/li>\n<li>Any facial changes (scars, moles, effects of ageing etc) around the face seal area<\/li>\n<li>Facial piercings<\/li>\n<li>Introduction or change in other head-worn personal protective equipment (PPE)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There is no stipulated frequency for re-testing, and you don\u2019t need one if there are no changes in these circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>If you require more detailed support and guidance, please contact us at info@mbo.ltd<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than ever, with the current outbreak masks are being worn, however we need to make sure the mask is&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":9,"featured_media":9502,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9488","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-news"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 -
