{"id":9769,"date":"2020-12-07T10:07:46","date_gmt":"2020-12-07T10:07:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/?p=9769"},"modified":"2020-12-07T10:07:46","modified_gmt":"2020-12-07T10:07:46","slug":"theme-park-fined-after-child-seriously-injured-on-a-ride","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/theme-park-fined-after-child-seriously-injured-on-a-ride\/","title":{"rendered":"Theme park fined after child seriously injured on a ride"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>A theme part attraction has been fined following an incident where a child was thrown from its Twister ride.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrates Court heard that on 30 May 2019, a child was ejected from the Twister ride at the theme park resulting in serious head injuries.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that although the theme park\u2019s procedures for the Twister ride stated that those between 1.2m and 1.5m tall must wear seat belts, several children under 1.5m in height were not wearing seat belts on this ride. This was seen in CCTV footage over several days and mentioned in statements by members of the public. On examination of the restraining systems, many belts were not functioning correctly. On several occasions, the final position of the lap bar restraint allowed significant gaps to remain in the containment and did not fully contain smaller passengers.<\/p>\n<p>The theme park pleaded guilty of breaching Section 3(1) of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and was fined \u00a3333, 344 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a316,183.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the hearing, the HSE inspector said: \u201cA child suffered life-changing head injuries at the theme park.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur investigation found that the theme park did not implement suitable operating procedures and monitoring of ride operators in relation to the ride restraints.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis was an entirely avoidable incident. Several children were put at risk and the theme park has now been held to account for their failings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The child\u2019s mother spoke of how \u2018the little boy I took to the theme park that day is not the same boy that woke up after the surgery.
