{"id":9908,"date":"2021-01-25T16:50:53","date_gmt":"2021-01-25T16:50:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/?p=9908"},"modified":"2021-01-25T16:50:53","modified_gmt":"2021-01-25T16:50:53","slug":"high-school-governing-body-fined-after-worker-falls-from-roof","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/mbosafetyservices.co.uk\/staging\/high-school-governing-body-fined-after-worker-falls-from-roof\/","title":{"rendered":"High school governing body fined after worker falls from roof"},"content":{"rendered":"<style type=\"text\/css\"><\/style><p>The governing body of a High School and Sixth Form has been fined after an employee fell from height whilst performing routine maintenance duties.<\/p>\n<p>The Magistrates Court heard how on Thursday 4 October 2018, an assistant site manager was removing footballs from the sixth form centre roof when he lost his footing, falling more than three metres to the ground. He sustained multiple fractures.<\/p>\n<p>An investigation by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) found that, despite it being a regular practice to go on to the roof to remove balls, the governing body had no protective measures in place to prevent a fall from the edges of the roof. No barriers, any type of edge protection or fall restraint system was in place.<\/p>\n<p>The governing body pleaded guilty to breaching Regulation 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 etc. They were fined \u00a310,000 and ordered to pay costs of \u00a35,851.50.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking after the hearing, HSE inspector Roger Clarke said: \u201cFalls from height remain one of the most common causes of work-related fatalities in this country and the risks associated with working at height are well known.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompanies should be aware that HSE will not hesitate to take appropriate enforcement action against those that fall below the required standard.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The governing body of a High School and Sixth Form has been fined after an employee fell from height whilst&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":7,"featured_media":9909,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-9908","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-uncategorized"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v25.6 -
