Stress Awareness Month

Endless to do lists, juggling your work load to get those priority jobs done and demotivated teams!

The pandemic has had a real impact on the way we work, taking on more varied roles, lone working, working from home to name a few, but change doesn’t suit everyone.

But how can we reduce our own and our teams stress levels, and how can MBO help you achieve this.

How can health and safety improve my stress levels? Well believe it or not, putting structure, policies, procedures and ensuring our staff are safe does improve our stress levels.

Working from home has created all sorts of changes. To improve stress levels, we could look at assessing the working area of your colleagues by completing a DSE assessment. This looks at how comfortable the working area is. It looks at things such as light and seating positions. It may flag additional requirements such as a new office chair. This may sound insignificant but the right chair, a blind etc all can hugely boost moral and productivity. No one works well with a bad back!

You may have members of the team who really want to progress their career, or have a desire to take on more responsibility. By allowing them to do this they may feel valued. It is proven that progressing our colleagues within the business helps with staff moral and staff retention.

How about having a health and safety champion? There is a fantastic course called IOSH Managing Safely, this 3 day course gives a foundation of health and safety and a potential stepping stone into a new career.

Alternatively, how about a Mental Health First Aider. This gives the team someone to go to when they need support or a friendly ear! We even deliver a Mini Medics course on Mental Health designed specifically for children.

Ensuing that your colleagues have the right equipment and tools to do their job effectively will improve productivity and stress levels. If a 10 minute job takes 30 minutes as the tools are not there, it puts additional pressure on an already busy schedule. It could mean that these members of your team are working longer hours to get all the jobs done, increasing stress levels.

These tools could include the correct training. We know it is not easy to let your team out of the business for days at a time, however we offer an abundance of eLearning courses on our website. All you need to do is block out an hour or so and get booked on.

Policies and procedures may sound boring, but they really are the foundation of how our businesses work. If everyone knows what to expect and has a reference point this eliminates the ‘fear factor’. No one likes to walk into a situation not knowing what the outcomes are going to be.

We offer bespoke H&S and HR manuals, along with the policies and procedures that run along side. We can also offer you the support to set your systems up and give you the tools to get it working efficiently. The best thing is, we provide packages where you can spread the cost on a monthly retainer / consulting agreement.

If you would like any assistance or if you have any questions please feel free to give the office a call to discuss.
