Delegates
Minimum of 6 delegates maximum of 12 delegates.
This course is designed for anyone who may encounter asbestos containing materials in the course of their work. This includes builders, electricians, fitters, joiners, plumbers and many more trades.
Certificate
This course has been approved as general awareness level training by the United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA). This level is suitable for those who have no intention of removing asbestos but work on buildings built or refurbished before the year 2000 where asbestos could be present.
The course includes a written assessment with the successful delegate receiving a UKATA certificate. We recommend that this course is renewed annually.

Overview
• Introduction – an overview of the course and discussion of attendees’ current level of knowledge.
• What is asbestos? – the different types of asbestos and their properties.
• Where can it be found? – the various uses of asbestos and includes slides of what asbestos containing materials may look like.
• When is it dangerous? – how to examine the condition of asbestos and the circumstances and processes that can make it dangerous.
• Health effects – how asbestos affects people and the symptoms of asbestos related diseases. This also covers the added risk from smoking.
• Video ‘How are you?’ – reiterates and strengthens the points made in the first part of the course.
• Control of Asbestos Regulations 2006 – an overview of the regulations that control asbestos in the UK.
• Video ‘How are you managing?’ – gives examples of how asbestos should be managed by different sized organisations.
• Surveys – detailed look into surveys and their intended use.
• How to avoid exposure? – precautions that workers should take to ensure they are not exposed to asbestos.
• Working safely – do’s and don'ts of working with unidentified materials to protect your safety.
• Uncontrolled release – the steps that should be taken in the event of an uncontrolled release of asbestos.
• Questions and answers – time for attendees to clarify and query any of the points raised in the course plus course questionnaire to test attendees’ knowledge.
