This course is designed for anyone whose work involves working at height using equipment such as stepladders, ladders, hoists, scaffolding etc.

Certificate

Delegates will receive a certificate of attendance. We recommend that this course is renewed every three years.

Overview

• Introduction – An overview of the course and discussion of attendees’ current level of knowledge.
• What is Work at Height? – How work at height is defined in terms of health and safety law.
• Work at Height and the Law – An overview of the work at height regulations and their requirements.
• Useful Definitions – Defines some of the terms used when talking about work at height including working platform, personal fall protection.
• Employers’ Duties – What employers should provide for their workers to protect them when working at height and the responsibilities they have under legislation.
• Employees’ Duties – What employees need to do to comply with the work at height regulations.
• Work at Height Equipment – An overview of the various types of equipment that can be used to work at height and some information on how to use each of them safely.
• Assessing Risks of Work at Height – Gives useful tips on what to consider when risk assessing work at height and gives a methodology for carrying out these assessments followed by a practical exercise. Includes guidance on how to select the most appropriate control measures.
• Good and Bad Practice – A series of photographs showing good and bad practice for discussion by the group.
• Practical Exercise – Attendees are taken through the practical process of setting up an item of work at height equipment safely. This will either be ladders or a tower.
• Questions and Answers – Time for attendees to clarify and query any of the points raised in the course plus a course questionnaire to test attendees’ knowledge.
